The reserach project“Financial market communication between identity-building and panopticon – How the German market place is shaped by Foucauldian power/knowledge relationships“ will be presented tomorrow at the 10th workshop on European Financial Reporting (EUFIN) in Regensburg. It is joint work with Markus Grottke.
„In this paper we analyse how issuers, audit instances and recipients of financial market com-munication shape each other and are shaped by each other via stabilised behavioural expectations. For this purpose, we explore empirical material at the German financial market place. By applying Foucauldian theory about power/knowledge, in particular Foucault’s elaborations on identity-building and panopticon, we identify critical instances which we reflect subsequently. Moreover, we provide evidence on how the networks of power-relations affect the different actors’ responsibility, reputation and effort.“
